The company has come a long way since its small beginnings in 1942. It was set up as a partnership firm by four friends who were willing to take on the world's biggest, most famous paint companies operating in India at that time. Over the course of 25 years, Asian Paints became a corporate force and India's leading paints company. Driven by its strong consumer-focus and innovative spirit, the company has been the market leader in paints since 1967. Asian Paints manufactures a wide range of paints for decorative and industrial use and also offers Wall Coverings, water proofing, adhesives and services under its portfolio. The company is also present in the Home Improvement and Decor segment and offers bath and kitchen products. The company also introduced lightings, furnishings and furniture in its portfolio.

Recently the company entered into a definite agreement with Weatherseal Fenestration for acquiring 51% stake. Weatherseal incorporated in Mar 2022 would be engaged in the business of interior decoration/furnishing, including manufacturing uPVC windows and door systems. Asian Paints also entered into a definite agreement for acquiring 49% stake in Obgenix Software, commonly known as White Teak, which is engaged in the business of decorative lighting products and fans.

New Categories/Offerings

Asian Paints has also recently launched range of Furniture, Furnishings and Lighting Products under three brands - Nilaya, Royale and Ador, thus offering wide spectrum of offerings in the ‘Home Décor’ category.

It has also launched ‘Beautiful Homes Service’ - an exclusive end-to-end solution that provides consumers a personalized interior design service with professional execution to create their dream homes.

Recently the company entered into a definite agreement with Weatherseal Fenestration for acquiring 51% stake. In October 2022, Asian Paints announced that it has entered into a into nanotechnology partnership with Harind to acquire 51% stake in Harind Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Private Limited (“Harind”) from Aapex Power and Industries Private Limited, Dr. Swapan Ghosh & others. It is also agreed to acquire further 39% stake in Harind from the existing shareholders, in a staggered manner, over the next 5 years, subject to fulfilment of certain conditions precedent and achievement of financial targets.

Asian Paints in Oct 2022, signed a binding term sheet with Riddhi Siddhi Crusher & Land Transport (Riddhi Siddhi), Fujairah, United Arab Emirates and Associated Soap Stone Distributing Company Private Limited (ASD), inter alia, to form a joint venture to carry out the business of manufacturing and exporting white cement & white cement clinkers by setting up a manufacturing plant in Fujairah, UAE, subject to due diligence and necessary regulatory and other approvals. The joint venture would be a 60:40 partnership between the Asian Paints and Riddhi Siddhi & ASD. The initial capacity of the said manufacturing facility, to be set up in Fujairah, UAE, would be 2,65,000 tons per annum. In addition, clinker grinding units would be set up in India as well. The overall investment would be approximately Rs. 550 crores, to be invested over the next 2 (two) years.

Home Improvement

Asian Paints with its intent to enter the Home Improvement and Décor space in India had acquired 51% stake in Sleek group, a kitchen solutions provider in August 2013. Sleek is a major player in the organized modern kitchen space and is engaged in the business of manufacturing, selling and distribution of modular kitchens as well as kitchen components including wire baskets, cabinets, appliances, accessories etc. Recently, the company has launched ‘Smart Kitchen’ range for easy installation and design under the Sleek brand. Sleek has also introduced wardrobes in its portfolio since FY17. In December 2017, Asian Paints acquired the balance 49% in sleek from its erstwhile promoters. Sleek is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.

In June 2014, Asian Paints acquired the entire front and sales business including Brands, Network and Sales Infrastructure of Ess Ess Bathroom products Pvt Ltd. Ess Ess is a prominent player in the bath segment in India and has high quality products in this segment. Recently, the company has introduced ‘Royale’ – premium range of bath fittings as well as ‘Bathsense’ – sanitary ware range of products for the evolving consumer.

Both, the Kitchen and Bath business have been co-branded with Asian Paints.

We are inclusive of our communities through a range of social interventions, enhancing skills and building social infrastructure to improve their quality of life.

The CSR Committee has identified the following thrust areas around which the Company shall be focusing its CSR initiatives and channelizing the resources on a sustained basis:

Health & Hygiene:

Under Health & Hygiene, we aspire to deliver primary health care support through diagnosis and treatments to our communities. Interventions will include promoting preventive healthcare, building awareness about hygiene, sanitation, maternal & child health care, setting up medical infrastructure, instrumenting clean drinking water habits, etc

Disaster Management:

We contribute towards relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction activities as a part of our disaster management intervention. As a responsible Company, we focus towards mitigating the effects of the crisis created by natural disasters, pandemic or likewise. We have partnered with the Government on various instances to provide support and aid. We have also worked with different partners for distribution of essentials among communities during the time of crisis.

Enhancing Vocational Skills:

In the area of Vocational training and skilling, we provide specialized and skill-based training to painters, carpenters, plumbers, etc., to enhance their skills, empower them, provide opportunities to secure better employment, and improve their livelihood.

Water:

Water is a valuable and scarce resource that we share with our surrounding communities, we have identified water conservation and management as a key area of intervention. Our focus will be an integrated approach across (a) to (d) below:

(a) reducing overall specific water consumption;

(b) reuse/recycle wastewater back within the factories and communities in the vicinity of our manufacturing locations and other areas of operations;

(c) rain Water harvesting in our factories and communities in the vicinity of our manufacturing locations and other areas of operations;

(d) watershed management and community outreach programs thus making more water available for the communities than what we consume every year.

The initiatives in this thrust area would, inter alia, include (i) creating capacities in conserving water through significant investments in partnership with relevant stakeholders, with the objective of water conservation, (ii) educating farmers in looking at various Government schemes with the objective of water management, (iii) undertaking water replenishment projects in the communities surrounding our factories. The approach would include providing support and infrastructure at each stage of water conservation, water preservation, water re-charge and waste-water treatment.

Vocational Skilling and Water conservation will continue to remain our key thrust areas of intervention.

PPG Asian Paints
