When it comes to lighting and décor, the ceiling is one of the most unexplored options for your home. Most home owners confine their décor to the shelves or the floor, but imagine all that space in between, available for you to experiment with!
Suspended décor is a great way to add a touch of personality to a home, whether it is a small apartment or a sprawling space. The biggest benefit is that it draws the eye upward, making rooms look larger and deeper, and of course, more interesting.
Of course, you could buy a beautiful lamp or piece of art and install it in your home, but as we like to say, why not DIY? There’s just something incredibly satisfying about making your own piece of art and seeing it every day.
Here is some inspiration to get your creative juices flowing!
Add an element of quirk to your home by choosing unconventional items to suspend. Play up the theme of a room by choosing a relevant object to make a real conversation-starter. If you’re making something for the kitchen, look for graters or wooden spoons. Making a mobile for a music room? How about using old vinyl records?
What about combining beauty with function? Using rope to suspend prettily painted wooden planks in a window gives you a delightful amount of space for smaller items like plants, while still allowing light to come through.
If you’re looking for pops of colour, try making a mobile made from origami paper cranes. They’ll add a minimalist Asian flavour to a room and are amusing additions to children’s rooms.
